What we do:

Thode Utting & Co. Barristers and Solicitors are lawyers that specialise in criminal defence work.

We currently have offices in Albany, Puhoi and Whangarei. We can make an appointment at any of our offices, depending on what is convenient to you.

We attend District and High Courts in the wider Auckland and Northland regions (including Auckland and Whangarei High Courts and Manukau, Auckland, Waitakere, North Shore, Whangarei, Kaikohe and Kaitaia District Courts).

We are a small firm that believe in giving you the attention, care and expert advice that you need. But being a smaller firm does not mean that we compromise our services or the expertise of our lawyers.

Our focus is you.

We recognise that each clients' needs are different and individual to them. We do not believe that one solution fits all and strive to ensure the best possible outcome for you.

Regardless of your legal situation, we can help you achieve your desired outcome.

We have lawyers that specialise in various areas of law, with varying experience. Please contact us here for a no obligation phone call to discuss your case.

We are also available for Skype, Facetime or video conferences (such as Zoom) at pre-arranged times if that suits.

Criminal charges

Are you facing criminal or traffic charges?

Are you stressed or anxious about appearing in Court and feeling clueless about the process?

Our lawyers specialise in litigation and can be a friendly and knowledgeable face at Court in your time of need. Whether it is drink driving charges or burglaries or rape or serious drugs charges, we can assist you to get the best outcome possible.

Parole Hearings

We also attend Parole Board hearings at Northland Region Corrections Facility in Kaikohe, Mt Eden Corrections Facility, Auckland Mens in Albany, Auckland South Corrections Facility in Wiri or the Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility in Wiri.

We may be able to attend Parole Board hearings in other prisons, depending on our availability. Please contact us to discuss this further.

Limited Licences

Have you been suspended for exceeding demerit points?

Or disqualified from driving by the Court?

But you need a licence for work or family reasons?

Talk to our lawyers about whether you can obtain a work licence so that you can still work and provide for your family during your suspension or disqualification.

Family Violence matters

Have you been charged with an assault on a family member or other offences involving your family?

Sometimes, a Court appearance can be a lonely place without a friendly face to support you.

Our lawyers can go through the process and available options with you and help you achieve the best outcome for you, and your family.

Legal Aid

Depending on the charges you face and your income, you may qualify for Legal Aid.

Please contact our office and we can discuss whether you are eligible and help you complete an application, if appropriate.

Interpreting services

We can arrange for an interpreter if you wish to have one present during your meetings. Please contact us for more information.

Trust Account

We operate a Trust Account in accordance with the Lawyers and Conveyances Act (Trust Account) Regulations 2008.
